Conservation groups

You will see from the activities and the number of groups I mention here, that fishing isn’t just about fishing!
Participating in fly fishing helps you understand the need to improve our rivers and supporting groups who actively work on improving the environment.

Buglife
I have recently joined Buglife. As fly fishers we depend upon the bug life of our rivers. I also bought myself a perspex pootah to try to catch and identify some of the critters around the river
About The Angling Trust
If you value your fishing and the riverside I would suggest you join the Angling Trust.
The Angling Trust is the representative body for game, coarse and sea anglers in England. Members support the campaigns and legal action they carry out to protect fish stocks and their programmes to increase the number of anglers fishing for fun and in competitions. They are fighting for the future of YOUR fishing, and need YOUR support to do more. If you want to protect your fish, fishing and the environment, for now and in future, join the angling trust today.

Each year in March, they hold an internet auction of exciting and rarely available fishing opportunities from the UK to the Bahamas; hand tied flies; fishing tackle; fishing tuition; shooting; art and literature - 235 lots in 2013

The Wye & Usk Foundation
As well as organising a good passport fishing scheme the Wye & Usk work on environmentally sound river management projects. They produce a printed annual newsletter with up-to-date info on their projects, consultations, catches and the fishing on the website.
You can also subscribe to their e-newsletter produced every few weeks, updating you on what is going on in the Wye & Usk catchments. For this free service visit www.wyeuskfoundation.org/fishing/reports

Salmon & Trout Association
What is the Salmon & Trout Association?

S&TA has 100,000 individual and club members throughout the UK within a countrywide Branch network. A small professional staff is based in London supported by many volunteers throughout the country.

The West Country Rivers Trust
The Trust also offers passport fishing on its rivers.
Check out the restoration projects; habitat improvement; improving fish access; education programmes; improving water quality; their work with South West Water aimed at reducing the cost of providing households with clean water by improving water quality at source; working with landowners to reduce the amount of pollutants entering our rivers, streams and reservoirs; providing land management advice and grant assistance for improved farm infrastructure.
Helping to protect and restore the rivers and environment across the South West.

The Atlantic Salmon Trust
Working for wild salmon and sea trout in all their habitats - Ocean, coastal and fresh water
Reducing threats to survival and maximising abundance.

During the last 30 years, numbers of wild salmon returning from the sea have fallen by more than half. Wild Salmon and Sea Trout are an important natural resource and we need help to find out why, and what can be done to stem this decline.
Since 1967, the Atlantic Salmon Trust has been involved in the funding and sponsorship of practical research programmes tackling the problems wild Atlantic salmon and sea trout face today.
