Women’s fishing days

What is planned for 2017 for women fly fishers? Check this page regularly to see what is posted or go to the 'Contact' page on the blog. Or 'Follow by email' to receive posts as they are published.

Any female anglers wishing to join us?
Beginner or any level - if you are interested in trying fly fishing, just curious, or keen to get more fly fishing in - contact and come along and enjoy an activity which will see you spending time in the countryside watching the wildlife and learning a little about the river.
For fly casting instruction in your area look up the websites for:
Game angling instructors Association (GAIC)
Advanced Association of game angling instructors (AAPGAI)

With the number of invasive species attacking our rivers, it is an absolute that all participants must ensure clean and dry fishing gear. They must also be in possession of an Environment Agency fishing licence. These can be purchased online for daily, weekly and yearly fishing.
All of the river fishing days have limits on the numbers that can fish. If we are over subscribed we will have a reserve list.

Day on the Dee

Trevor Heyliger of Rivergreen Fly Fishing School  has generously offered us a day with his expert guidance and to show us the water, advising on possible tactics and approach. He is making no charge.
This will be on a private beat on the river Dee just outside Corwen. There will be a charge of £20 per rod.
September often offers good dry fly sport especially for the Grayling.
We will organise our own travel - sharing cars if possible

Derwent fly fishers

via Juliet and Isobel have also offered a day. Date yet to be finalised

Past events

LOTS (Ladies of the Stream)

May 9th 2017

Paul Sissons offered us a guided day on the River Don above Sheffield.
Maximum number of 6
We had a full cohort for this event.

This stretch is free fishing. There are quite a few stretches of free river along the Don and also the Rivelin - which is very good for the locals!
The stretch Paul had selected for the fishing and demonstration of nymph fishing was really quite picturesque - woodland with paths through and no litter. The day was very cold for May, which made nymph fishing very relevant.
The river was running low and clear.
After Paul Sissons very good instruction ans support as we fished, we all caught fish (one of Hilarys in pic above)
Thanks to Paul from all of us

Tuesday 16th August
We had glorious hot weather for the day. Very bright sunshine, which made fishing a tad more difficult! We had a late extended lunch, which enabled us to fish into the beautiful evening and into darkness

Tuesday 2nd August- fully booked

We were very privileged to be offered some very special fishing on the Dove. Drizzle didn't stop the fishing. Strangely, two sheep were rescued by two of the group!

Wednesday 6th July
River Wye around Monsall

Seven women Tenkara fishing on the wonderful Wye. Fantastic instruction from Dave Southall. An excellent teacher, thanks Dave.
Learning the art of Tenkara was requested at our meeting in Bakewell. The Wye proved to be an excellent river to test this fast flowing river technique. It was amazingly successful - once you got the casting right!

May 24th 2016
Day on the Derwent near Hathersage

A wonderful stretch of the Derwent. And what beautiful weather we had. The following shots were provided by Hilary and give a good idea of the enjoyable day we had.
There were seven of us to fish, though Isobel and Juliet mostly guided during the day. Mayfly were starting to come off and the fishing was most productive.
The colouring on the wild brownies is delightful.
The olive uprights were in abundance at the end of the day, flying in clouds around us as we were packing up.
A great day. Thanks to all for attending and especially thanks to Juliet and Isobel for organising the day.

Reservoir day

We had an amazingly hot fishing day. Here is a shot of one of the fish caught in the afternoon

Ladies of the Stream - October event

A day on the wonderful Wye in Bakewell on October 4th 2015
What a perfect day for trout fishing on the clear water of the Derbyshire Wye. The sun shone, everyone caught fish. Bernie Mahers kick sampling showed us the tiny creatures that live in the river.
Even when not trying to catch fish it was a pleasure to watch them swimming about in the clear water.

Ladies of the Stream - September event

Juliet arranged a day on the Derwent near Hathersage. A wonderful stretch of the Derwent. Everyone caught fish. A very good day.
